About
I’ve never been brilliant at writing about myself. My name is Shelby, or depending on how long I’ve known you and/or how much affection I have for you, sometimes Shannon. There’s a long story behind that, which I may tell someday. I’m older than I look, and probably much older than I act at times. I believe that there is wisdom in not being too grown up. Being responsible is important; knowing when to let go and have fun is equally important.
I’m an interesting mix of contradictions. I can be impossibly shy at times, and at others, very outgoing. I am a flirt, some have even said a tease, but I believe firmly in monogamy. I love sex, and am attracted to both men and women, and have had relationships with both, but believe that bringing a third person into the bedroom only ends in tears. (Note: as shy as I can be at times, you’ll never find me hesitant to talk about sex!) I have a great vocabulary at my disposal, but firmly believe that swear words are valid elements of that vocabulary. I know when and where one should avoid vulgarity, and I do avoid it at those places and times, but liberally pepper casual speech with the so-called “naughty” words.
I’m a geek. Oh boy, am I a geek. My panties get wet over new gadgets. My computer is home-built; every part carefully selected to give me the most bang for the buck… the best performance for my games, etc. Oh yes, I’m a gamer, too. Girl gamers do exist. I’m a World of Warcraft junkie! Currently, I have three level 80 characters, and am working on a fourth. Poptartz is my main character.
I also love The Sims, and make custom content for it. Second Life appeals to me for much the same reason that The Sims does – I make custom content for SL, also. Aside from those things, I also
my PS3. I can totally kick your ass at Soul Calibur IV. Other games I love are Little Big Planet, Pure, and of course there’s a Final Fantasy or two thrown in there.
I paint. I draw. I write. I rarely let my work see the light of day. I also sing and play guitar, but can count on one hand the number of times I’ve performed in front of a crowd. It’s alright, though, I don’t do any of these things for anyone but me.
They are simply the things that I love, and I don’t need a crowd to sing or play my heart out.
In fact, I prefer not to have a crowd. Curiously, though, it’s not that I’m a huge fan of my own voice. I’m not.
Speaking of music… I love a wide range of it! Classical, oldies, rock, pop… I like at least a little bit of everything. I’ve been a Beatles fan since before it was cool to love the Beatles again. Practically from the cradle. I could list the artists that I like all day long and never finish. There are also a fair few artists that I could mention that probably very few people have ever heard of, which is a shame, since they’re all very gifted.
Lastly, but not least importantly, I am a fiercely loyal and loving friend. If I call you my friend, I mean it with my whole heart, and I will always do my very best to be a good and true friend. I will have ears when you need someone to listen, shoulders when you need them to cry on, arms to wrap around you when you seek comfort, and a fist to slam into the face of anyone who hurts you. I’m quick to seek forgiveness if I am the one to hurt you, and I will never have done it purposefully. I believe, with all my heart, that friends are the family that you choose.
